Weekly Recap; 12/15/25-12/21/25

If you wanna see some great ties, then keep reading and scrolling to see the creations of this week!

-

Monday started off with three steelhead jigs. All are 1/32oz with Gamakatsu hooks. Gaining more confidence in using a wide variety of materials to tie with. Suppose this is where being an artist can help.

-

The first set of jigs all had a material that I am not too familiar working with, that is rabbit strip. After tying a bit with it, I understand why it is such a wonderful material.

-

Mixing the rabbit with marabou and a variety of flash, I came up with three different combinations, all of which I’m certain will catch fish under a float.

-

On the JD Outdoors YouTube channel, there is a video of me tying the pink steelhead jig. Check it out!

-

Tuesday, woke up and started tying more! This time around mixing it up with a Clouser Minnow, two White Death Zonkers, and a completely random combination. On the random, I used paracord as the body. While working on another project, I relaxed paracord has good properties; shine, weave that gives the illusion of scales.

-

Tuesday part ii-

This time around I got together with my fellow jewelry maker and we got crafty. These are the second round of JD Outdoors Co. earrings! Tied similarly to a fly! Just no hook! Soon to be on my website, or message if interested.

-

Tis’ the time of year, while cleaning I found my Santa 🎅🏻 hat and broke it out.

-

Wednesday I gave a go at my first ever egg pattern flies. In need of some work certainly. As the week progressed, it seems I tied smaller and smaller flies. The few nymphs I tied, turned out well. These Zebra Midge style Copper nymphs and the bigger Laker nymph all look good to me.

-

The other paracord project I worked on was the JDO fishing neck lanyard! This one made with Green and Camo Paracord and a leather Smallmouth tail! This idea came to me sometime this past year. After making one and using it all Summer and Fall, I realized others might like them too!

-

Soon on my website, there will be two options for the neck lanyard, to start at least. One being the smallmouth tail and the other being the trout tail.

-

It is so convenient having nippers and forceps at your disposal at all times. That holds true for fishing from the boat or shore. They get used constantly! You may as well be showing off your favorite fish while you are at it.

-

Thursday tied up some more nymph patterns, just duplicates of the ones I had already tied. Then my buddy and I got out by the river to get some product shots of the JD Outdoors Co beanie and hoodie!

-

While we were out we also went and played on the swing-set for a good half hour. Yes, you read that correctly. If you are reading this and have not used a swing in years or decades; do it! It WILL make you smile and feel good. Just because your age is older does not mean you have to act like wise.

-

Friday morning before going to Miller’s Thumb, I wanted to make the owner a keychain as a thank you for having a great place for me to make my art. Very pleased with how it turned out.

-

The piece I have been working on has been completed, but I am waiting to mat and frame it before I reveal it.

-

Saturday offered a cool visual experience. After being cooped up all day, I bust out of the house to go fish the Upper River, knowing well that it was just for recon, reps and joy. If a fish was caught, that is the cherry on top.

-

No fish were caught but I did capture some cool shots of the ice formations on the trees. The ice has some amazing ways of sticking to rocks, trees, grasses. Mother Nature always has something special to look at.

-

Sunday! The Winter Solstice! Happy Winter, officially, despite not having any snow, it has gotten bitter cold outside again.

-

A new episode of the Two Angles on Angling Podcast is up on YouTube!

-

Song of the week;

The Wizard by Al Di Meola

-

Thank you for reading another one of my articles. Hope some knowledge is gained by readers or at least some entertainment.

-

I do this mainly to bundle up the week from before, look at the wins and losses, share what I feel is worth while and process it all.

-

Honestly, most people could benefit from this practice. It also has helped me keep better control over my photos because I go through and delete all the ones I deem as unnecessary.

-

Anyway, stay tuned for more. What is more? More YouTube videos, more articles, more products, more podcasts, and more adventures.

-

Happy Holidays to everyone!

Have fun and be safe!
