Weekly Recap; 3/2/26- 3/8/26

Monday; Fishing & Flies

Fished the Lower Niagara River with no success. After though, went home and tied half up a couple flies.

-

Tuesday; Blood Moon Eclipse

No fishing. Tied up some more flies, leaning towards Steelhead now. Realized that my arsenal of flies for targeting Steelhead was low.

-

That evening I played a short set at the open mic hosted by The Buffalo Wings and Brewhouse on Oliver Street in North Tonawanda. Highly recommend it there!

-

My set list was as follows;

The Needle and the Damage Done

  • Neil Young

Elderly Woman Behind the Counter

in a Small Town

  • Pearl Jam

The Drowning Machine

  • Gord Downie and the Country of Miracles

-

Wednesday; Fishing & Flies

Took a long day to explore a creek. One I have been to before, with no luck. This outing didn’t change the streak, but I did get a better lay of the land for next time I go back.

-

The water was really low, so it allowed me to navigate easily and collect recon.

-

Thursday; Stormy Day

Spent a very short stint of time on the Lower River. No fish, but nice to get out and explore.

-

That evening tied up even more flies. Also worked on several art pieces. Many of which I prepared for the Fly Fishers Workshop.

-

Friday; Final Prep

Tied up the final Zebra Midge flies for the show as well as sheathed my artworks and added my card to the back.

-

Saturday; Fly Fishers Workshop

For having never been before, it was a good turnout. Made connections and sold some flies!

-

Sunday; Clocks

We got our bi-annual shake up! The clocks Sprung forward!

-

Unpacking from the show. Reflecting on what I can improve and do better. As well as looking at the week ahead to plan and be proactive.

-

The snow is pretty much all melted! Even better is that there are buds forming on trees. The smell of rot in the woods, mmmm I’ve missed it!

-

Some fishing. Some shed hunting.

The results? No such luck. Water was muddy, winds high, no sheds found.

Still, managed to put in a lot of time in the woods.

-

Robins seem to be back and active. Many other species spotted; Cardinal, Bluejay, Chickadee, Nuthatch, Downie Woodpecker, Canada Geese, Redhead Ducks, Redtailed Hawk, Mourning Dove, Junko, and maybe a few I am forgetting.

-

Song of the week;

Brother Down by Sam Roberts

-

Thank you for reading!

Take care, see you in the woods or on the water!
