Weekly Recap; 2/23/26-3/1/26

Recouping from the fishing show was a majority of Monday and Tuesday.

-

A few updates to the website! ALL NEW STICKERS have been put in the shop! Along with a few flies as well as a new logo t-shirt.

-

Tuesday;

Fished for a little while. Also, worked on multiple pieces of art. They will be on display at my booth at the Fly Fisher’s Workshop on March 7th!

-

Wednesday;

Took a drive to Fort Niagara to get a new perspective.

-

Thursday;

Went for a drive around the system, the Lower Niagara River and Upper Niagara River, all the way around Grand Island.

-

Saw some beautiful Mute Swans, up close and personal. The photos do a great job of capturing them.

-

After the drive, did some exploratory fishing in a small creek and was sadly disappointed. Found a few holes that could hold fish, however the water was low, which did not help.

-

Friday;

Spent time driving around to various creeks, scouting basically. I have been out of touch with the waters around us lately. Made plenty of casts with no real promise.

-

Ended up fishing two different bodies of water. Even with no fish or even any takes, much was seen and learned regardless.

-

Saturday;

A similar repeat to Friday, but added another creek into the rotation, as well as using the fly rod.

-

No such luck yet again. This time, it was pretty apparent why. The water was much higher, faster and muddy with debris. Far from ideal conditions. The last creek I went to was clear, well it seemed crystal clear compared to the other spots.

-

Not all our creeks have gauges on them to check the water levels. Myself, I prefer to go and visit the creeks and just see what is happening. Sometimes you are super surprised how clear a creek may be even when the rest are the true moo river.

-

Regardless of the fishing, the birds are always a spectacular sight, or the ice chunks melting away, the hatches happening in the warm afternoons, and the slow process of Spring emerging.

-

Sunday;

Fished a brand new creek to me. One I have seen and wondered about. Despite no fish, the water was muddy, there was a lot of promise!

-

Four days in a row fishing. Spirits are higher. Going to keep the streak going until I catch a fish!   Stay tuned for the journey.

-

Tying back in to the statement about being in touch with the waters, yeah I have fished many of the creeks for years. Sometimes I have kept a log of the conditions and such, but I still don’t really understand the rhythm.

-

Once I spend enough time on certain creeks, I know I’ll tune into how it behaves in snow melt, rain falls, certain times of year, what they prefer to eat.

-

Time on the Water. Time in Nature.

Fine with me. Time with myself.

-

That evening we had a concert;

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit!

What an amazing show! To make it even more epic, while waiting to get into the show, Rob Baker from The Tragically Hip walked right by us and chatted a bit.

-

Song of the week;

Miles by Jason Isbell and the 400 unit

-

The song is seven minutes long!!! As a fan of Progressive Rock, I’ve fallen in love with songs seven minutes or longer. It shows that the artist had a true story to tell, in my opinion at least.

-

Jason is far from Prog Rock, but as soon as I saw the song was seven minutes, I knew it would be special and lo and behold, it is.

-

Thank you for reading!

Take care, see you in the woods or on the water!
