Weekly Recap; 8/4/25-8/10/25

The Sun and Moon were highlights of the week! The photos do not do justice but still unique.

-

The smokey haze from the Canadian wildfires has lead to some epic bright red sunrises and sunsets.

-

Artwork was a high priority this week. There is a big project I have been working on. In between though, I have been changing pace and taking some different views.

-

Wednesday evening I had an amazing hike! We found some amazing mushrooms! Including Chicken of the Woods! One of my personal favorites due to its bright orange color palate.

-

Also found a Northern Tooth Fungus which makes me think of coral whenever I see it. The giant find of the day was the Berkeley’s Polypore.

-

Many feathers were found on the walk too. From three different species of birds too. I will have to do more research to find who they belonged too.

-

Back at Miller’s Thumb the second half of the week. More artwork done and more of the best caffeine and pastries and bread around.

-

Friday evening I went down to Pennsylvania to see my Mom. Before leaving my brother and I saw four Coopers Hawks which was awesomeness! Then on the drive I saw two Bald Eagles! Epic!

-

The later half of this week, we had the Sturgeon Full Moon. Seeing it here in Pennsylvania was awesome. The light pollution is very low. Which leads to amazing night skies.

-

No fishing was done on this trip. We spent time organizing and going through all of my stepdad’s tools, and he sure did collect a variety in his life. Grateful to be able to use many of them still and for many years to come. Which I know would make him proud.

-

It was good to spent quality time with my Mom, brother and niece. We spent a lot of time outside or on walks. Butterflies galore. Monarchs multiple in sight at a time. All while the chorus of birds goes in the background of Northern Flickers, Yellow Warblers and Robins.

-

The night of the Sturgeon Full Moon we had a fire and all sat around while I played guitar. Yet again, another thing I know David would want us to be doing. My brother and I stayed up late enough to watch the moon rise over the hill so gracefully and seemingly quick. Our talks ranged all over the place, but like always left us feeling good.

-

Sunday morning, I did some more work with the tools as well as made two more wooden spoons! They are getting a final sealing soon and they will be ready to use! Both are made of Cherry. The tools used; fine wood saw, four-in-one rasp, spoon knife and four different grits of sandpaper, and of course the beeswax sealer.

-

Each spoon gets better and better. Just like each drawing I do elevates my ability to produce more and improved works of art.

-

Other notes;

Something about this time of year, it makes me want to get so much done and then I get a bit burnt out. It is difficult to pace yourself, especially when it is nice out, but sometimes it is most productive to sit back on the couch and relax.

-

This upcoming Tuesday I will be hosting a meditation session at Aura Juicery! It is $25 for the 45-minute class and you get a juice! Contact 716-863-3733 to reserve your spot.
