Weekly Recap; 8/25/25-8/31/25

The end of August. To most people, they would say it is the end of Summer. Technically we do still have a few more weeks. Regardless, we feel the need to label instead of just experiencing.

-

There is a magic about our connection with Nature and other humans. We get so caught up in labeling and naming that we loose sight. I am guilty of this. It is exciting to find new species of plants, fish, birds, etc…

-

With this though there also builds up this list of labels in your head. Instead of just observing and knowing. In due time, I guess you build up this catalog of knowledge and then you are more in tune.

-

One thing remained consistent this week, amazing clouds! The storms that rolled through brought some epic clouds and sunsets. Another sign of the change of seasons.

-

Art work this week has been focused on one medium; Oil Pastels.

This is an area I have very little experience with, but I want to learn more. Pastels offer a different approach than colored pencils.

-

The pieces I did (shown below) were based on actual fish and actual scenes. Currently I am working with limited colors, but that is forcing me to see more colors in these images.

-

Last week while talking to my Uncle Fred, he mentioned working in the colors that you might not think, like purples, oranges and blues. None of the works are finished, but I am very pleased with the progress.

Thursday; 8/28

-

Very neat bird observation. While on a drive, I decided to stop at the foot of Sheridan to see the sunset and the waves crashing. As I was looking around, I noticed a bird perched on the dock.

-

Even at a distance I knew this was something different, not a Cormorant. So what could it be? I did my best to get some pictures and then sent it over to Ryan. It turns out the bird was a Green Heron. This was not the first time I have ever seen one, but definitely far from a frequent flyer.

-

Spent some time at Art Park this week too. Definitely noticing some change of scenery. The occasional leaf falling, spots of yellow, orange and red.

-

Trees are fruiting and dropping nuts and seeds. It is time to prepare. The animals are getting busy bulking up again.

Saturday; 8/30/25

Lake Erie

Fun fishing with Dad

-

Air temp: 57°-66°

Water temp: 69°

Wind: W 4MPH-> W 9MPH

Conditions: Sunny

Depth fished: 15’-35’

Time fished: 8:45am-1pm

Water clarity: 1’ +

Pattern: Summer

Best Zone: 25’-33’; Rocks

Total caught: 2 Bass

-

My Dad caught both the fish. Both on a Green Pumpkin drop shot! The quote of the day from my Dad is, “Well Jordan, I don’t believe strictly in much when it comes to fishing, but I do believe in Green Pumpkin.”

-

That had us both laughing and even more so because we know it’s true. You can’t go wrong throwing that color, especially since it imitates everything so well, crawfish, gobies, bass, walleye, etc…

-

Looking back, we needed to move spots earlier than we did. It was not an easy choice to make. We basically were running without any map or electronics. The motor cranking battery was dead for some reason. So there was some anxiety about moving around too much.

-

Regardless, the day turned out okay. Got some time on the water with my Dad and he once again kicked my butt on the lure that he has disliked for years!

-

Song of the week;

Runaround Sue- Dion

The vocals on this just amaze me! Never really gets old.

-

Episode 120 of the Two Angles on Angling Podcast is up on YouTube!

If you stick around to the end of the episode I share some works of art for SALE!!!

-

Tight lines and I’ll catch ya later!

Peace and Love
