Weekly Recap; 6/30/25-7/6/25

Some cool time in Nature as well as some time in the Water.

-

Early in the week, upon arriving home I saw this mayfly on the main door. I had to get some pictures for references and to identify it. It is a Hexagenia Limbata Mayfly. Super cool to see up close and still. A nice rusty, orange color too. Gave me lots of ideas for lures and art!

7/4/25 Art Park Hike

It was not a long hike, a solo walk with a good rest at the turn around point. Some cool observations along the way.

-

There are many cool things I realized on my walk. I have been going to Art Park consistently for six years now. The amount of knowledge I have in my head on the plant life, birds, animals and general pattern of life there, is amazing.

-

As I go along I test myself on species. First finding a Dandelion Leaf, then Staghorn Sumac, Wild Cherries, White Cedar, Basswood, Black Walnut, Sugar Maple, White Egret, Great Blue Herron, Double-Crested Cormorant, Canada Geese, Herring Gulls, Bluejays, Robins and the list keeps going.

-

Often as I go along I wonder, “shall I make a salad for myself one of these days based on wild edibles alone?”

-

As I sat by the water side, the first rhyme came to mind and then it just flowed… enjoy.

7/5/25 July

Conesus Lake

Fun fishing with Dad

-

Air temp: 66°-85°

Water temp: 76°

Wind: S 7mph- W 6mph

Conditions: Mostly Sunny

Depth fished: 5’-20’

Time fished: 8am-1:30pm

Water clarity: 1’ +

Pattern: Summer

Best Zone: Weed lines

Total caught: 2 large

First one on a 1/4oz drop shot with a 6” motor oil trick worm.

Second on the JDO Flip Jig and 3.25” watermelon flake craw.

-

Bald Eagle sighting!!! As we were fishing early in the day I saw one but now for long. Then as we were driving up the lake, I saw one and followed it. Which then lead us to the next spot which is where we caught the first fish of the day!

-

There was an odd algae on most of the good looking grass, making it very hard to get a clean cast.

-

The two fish we caught were on deeper weed lines where it was cleaner grass and water. Couldn’t make much of a pattern though. That is the way it goes.

-

To wrap up the week I worked on some art projects. One of them be the moccasins in the photos. I was overdue for a pair without holes in them, I go through about a pair a year. These ones are probably my best yet and the most unique.

-

I will have a few pairs for sale at my booth at the Canal Fest Art Show July 19th and 20th! Booth 289!!! There will also be original paintings, prints, lures and more!

-

Along with the moccasins and lures, I made this cool lanyard to hold my forceps and nippers while out fishing. It is a pretty simple design but very practical. The forceps clip onto a piece of leather, in this case a piece in the shape of an arrowhead. As well as a leather strap for comfort on your neck and a keyring to attach nippers or any other tools.

-

Song of the week;

Cathedral by Crosby, Stills and Nash

This song came up on shuffle while driving home from vacation with my Dad. Since then, I have played it over thirty times now. Just such an epic song.

-

Podcast episode 114 of the Two Angles on Angling podcast will be up on YouTube soon!

-

Enjoy the photos!

Tight lines and catch ya soon!
