Weekly recap; 6/2/25-6/8/25

No fish to be had this week, but the birds, plants and mushrooms sure made up for it!

-

Camping Four Mile Creek this weekend was an absolute blast! Hiked, Camped, Kayaked and Cooked!

-

The meals we had were of the highest quality. I know for a fact that most people who camp do not eat as well as we did!

-

Fishing from the kayak is always a humbling experience, especially with wind or current. As with all fishing, boat control and lure presentation is key to success. Anyone who has kayaked knows the difficulty of boat control in the wind and waves, let alone trying to fish. These are not excuses for the lack of fish, but rather insights gleamed looking back.

-

With the proper preparation, you really can eat well while camping. Mind you, we had access to our cars the whole time which allowed for more storage. Had we been backpacking, the meals would have not been so neat.

-

Bird, bird, birds… this weekend was epic in my eyes. I saw more Belted King Fishers than I ever have before. Saw more Great Blue Herons, Red-winged Blackbirds, European Starlings, Robins, Gray Catbirds, Brown-headed Cowbirds and a few more. Most of them came right into camp to check things out.

-

A short weekend trip like that does wonders for the mind, body and soul. In one way it is exhausting due to the change of pace and activity levels, but it is a great feeling that leaves you sleeping well. On the other hand it is a relaxing time, with the only real stimulus being Mother Nature; the wind, rain, waves, creek, birds, frogs, bugs and fire.

-

There is an art piece I started this week. The Blackbird drawing (shown below) is actually an idea that came to mind before a podcast with Ryan. I took note of this idea and finally started being it to reality. I am excited to see it fully done!

-

The flow I am in feels beautiful. The more I study the outdoors the more I fall in love. The more I capture the outdoors through photos, art and writing, the more I understand the love. There is deep insight and divine details everywhere we look. Staring at pictures of Smallmouth bass for hours, it gives you a new appreciation and respect.

-

This is another shorter blog post. The Spring is a busy time and with the weather being so nice, my mind has been more on staying outdoors rather than writing about it. However, we will keep posting and elaborate more when able to.

-

Thank you for taking the time to ready rambles.
