Weekly Recap; 5/5/25-5/11/25

This week shaped up to be what I would want every week to look like. Four days in a row on the water, catching fish and a tan.

-

The first day on the water was Wednesday on Lake Ontario and the Lower River. Here is the fishing log below.

Caught two smallmouth on a 1oz chartreuse and white football head swim bait. In roughly 30’ of water.

-

Tyler caught a Laker on a white tube in front of the fort at the end of the day in 15’ of water.

-

I saw a Sturgeon porpoise as we got in front of the fort and it was epic!

-

After we wrapped up the day I felt I hadn’t satisfied the itch. My buddy Michael had texted me about a hot bite he was on at the Upper River.

-

After we parked the boat and cleaned up I decided to go shore fish the river and the literal first cast I caught a smallmouth. Went on to lose a nice sized one, but scratched the itch.

-

The next day, Thursday I had to go back again! This time I went with my buddy Ed and he helped produce the latest video on my YouTube channel where I catch a big native Redhorse sucker. Check out the video!!! Also caught a smallmouth earlier before the sucker.

-

Friday I got out of work early and the only thing on my mind was going fishing. So that is exactly what I did! Ended up with two smallmouth that evening, both on a JD Outdoors Co. Ned Rig. It is so awesome watching the Terns dive on bait. The bird activity in general has been amazing as the weather has improved.

Here is the fishing log for Saturday on the Upper Niagara River.

Fun fishing with Dad

Air temp: 55°-65°

Water temp: 47°

Wind: SW 10MPH-> SW 13MPH

Conditions: Sunny

Depth fished: 5’-20’

Time fished: 10am-4:15pm

Water clarity: 3’ +/-

Pattern: Spring

Best Zone: Ryan’s Marina

Total caught: 10

-

Every fish but one was caught on the Ned Rig. It was a tough bite. The wind was messing with drifts slightly. The other major variable, the water was very clear in most areas.

-

The last thirty minutes saved the day, we went from having only four fish by 3pm and then things changed. It is not like it is under my control really if who I am with catch fish, but at a certain point I would rather see them catch fish.

-

My Dad got the bite dialed in and caught four smallmouth in the last hour of the day and the best of the day too!

-

Also while we were out we saw two Red-tailed Hawks in their nest! First time ever seeing that! Great Blue Herons were out and about this week and what a beautiful sight to see. The leaves are also now nearing full bloom and it is miraculous.

-

The week consisted of making art, time outdoors, and time with loved ones. That to me is the perfect week.

Enjoy the photos below!

Tight lines and catch ya soon!
