Monday:
Found a new species of butterfly!
(new to me, not the whole world, but probably also new to you)
-
The Mourning Cloak Butterfly.
A beautiful being. Has amazing camouflage to blend right in with the dead leaves and the dirty ground.
-
Went to the Fatima Shrine in Lewiston. A spectacular sight to see. As an artist especially, the sculptures, the paintings, all masterfully crafted.
-
Wild flowers are popping up! Like this Early Crocus found at the Fatima Shrine.
-
That evening saw a small group of Greater Scaup “Bluebills”
-
Tuesday:
Had a Ring-billed Gull pose nicely for me to take a photo. Soon to become a work of art.
-
That evening played the open mic at the Buffalo Wings and Brewhouse on Oliver Street in North Tonawanda.
-
The three songs I played?
Emperor Penguin- The Tragically Hip
When the Weight Comes Down- TTH
The Drowning Machine- Gord Downie
-
Going forward, I plan to be playing there every Tuesday night.
-
Wednesday:
“I came upon Mother Goose, so I turned her loose, she was screaming…”
-
Thursday:
Mergansers…
-
On my way to a doctors appointment, I passed by Ellicott Creek. Swimming on the water was this duck, with such a bright white belly, dark black head and an orange beak.
-
Took in that info, saved it for later. Turned through the bird book, must be a Common Merganser (mergus merganser)
-
In the book, the photo of the male, its head looked much darker black in comparison to the green the book shows.
-
Birds take on all sorts of patterns and plumes, depending on time of year.
-
After the appointment, I raced back to track down the birds. It took a while, but I found them. The identification was correct. It was a solo pair of Mergansers.
-
Which then heavily inspired me to make an art piece based on them. As a way of honoring their majestic beauty.
-
Friday:
Peter Cottontail on Good Friday. Seeing these guys out about heavily, shows me Spring is unfurling.
-
Saturday:
Got a picture, sorta… of a Killdeer! One of my favorite birds. This Spring I have heard many but this was the best sighting I had. Tried getting a photo through the binoculars, doesn’t always work out haha.
-
Sunday:
Waterfall Exploration
-
You’ll notice there are no photos. That is because I will make a whole post about this day alone.
-
A Downy Woodpecker and a Robin got captured with the phone. The bird photos I take, they are not the most crisp or clear. To me, this adds a layer of mystery. In a way, they feel more like a painting than a picture.
-
Song of the Week???
Bright End of Nowhere by Matthew Good

Thanks for checking in! More adventures on the horizon!
