Weekly Recap; 12/8/25-12/14/25

The brutal weather did not keep me out of the woods or off the water this week!

It was a week of creating, in many ways.

Leather and Lures mainly.

Tuesday morning I went on a hike to Eternal Flame. Things sure were icy! Well worth the track, especially being the only ones around.

Thursday was a good day to tie! Lately tying has started with some inspiration; either a color pallet, material or style of tying. So when I sit down to do several jigs, they usually have some similar color schemes. These two are beauties. The larger one will be GREAT on Smallmouth in cold water, just the same for the smaller jig will be SUPER for Steelhead.

Friday I went to Miller’s Thumb Cafe and worked on some new ideas for fish drawings. I’m not ready to share them, but stay tuned, promise they are worth the wait! Drawings develope and that is the beauty. I’ve always loved seeing it go from thought, pencil sketch, outline and details in pen, fill with colored pencils and blend.

Saturday midday went out to fish a creek. It was cold, low water and mostly froze over. Regardless had to give it a shot. A cool observation was this massive crawfish I saw while crossing the creek. Some signs of life!

The leather key chains really took form. As most artists do, we spiral with dozens of ideas that are somehow separate but linked. Then somehow we have a final piece.

With all my studies of fish the last few years, as well as my refound love for leather working, figured merging the two would make for an interesting take. I’m stoked with how they turned out. All are available for sale! $10 ea. Handmade in Western New York.

Sunday went on a little snow shoe treck! The first of this snow fall season. While sitting near an Epic Willow tree, there was a Redheaded Woodpecker and to join shortly after was a White Breasted Nuthatch!

Also worked on a completely new style tie, using many different materials. Happy with fhe results, soemthing different. JD Outdoors Co is all about being different!

Anyway, that’s my week! It has been up and down, but looking back, clearly I still made a lot happen! These recaps help my digest the prior week and learn from them as much as it probably entertains and teaches you, the reader.

There is no episode of Two Angles On Angling this week. Back at it again soon!

Song of the week;

Something Like a Storm by Matthew Good

Thank you for reading another JD Outdoors blog! There are several consistent readers and I really appreciate that someone wants to read what I write!

Make the most of the Winter and the ups and downs that come with it. Mother Nature knows how to force you to slow down and take some rest.

Take care everyone! Have a great week! Throw my a line if you have a question! See you in the woods or on the water! Enjoy the photos below!
